Partners for Clean Water
Public Education and Outreach
The Partners' mission:
|
Stormwater is water from rain or melting snow that does not immediately
soak into the ground. Instead stormwater flows
across hard surfaces such as
parking lots, streets, lawns and roofs and picks up pesticides and
fertilizers, sediment, pet waste, cigarette butts, litter, oil and other
pollutants. Many people believe that these pollutants are cleaned at a wastewater treatment plant. In fact, they are not. The stormwater that flows into our storm drains goes directly to the Boise River or into our ground water. |
| The Partners are working together to educate the community on how to
reduce pollutants to stormwater. They have created an exciting campaign to
educate and inspire behavior change among residents.
Proving that learning
is easier when you’re having fun, the Partners enlisted the help of a
mascot, "Eddy Trout." Eddy serves as the spokesfish for the Boise River and
visits classrooms and attends events around town, spreading the news: “The
Boise River is closer than you think”. He can be seen on
bus ads as well as in public service announcements.
Eddy can also be heard on
radio spots.
